#100WordHorror ★ Marc Tizura

“But daddy, I am scared of the dog in the rain.” She told her father with eyes as wide as saucers.

“Sweetheart, look out the window and see there is no rain out there and no dog either; it was a dream.” The father assured her, kissing her forehead and guiding her back to her pillow.

“It said you’re going to Hell.” She claimed before drifting back to sleep.

The first drops of rain hit the windows, sounding like knocking on a coffin.

A chill ran down him to his very soul.

Outside, he thought he heard a dog growling.★

#100WordHorror ★ Justin A. Price

“What was that?” Audrey said.

I finished the trick and faced her. “I made a rabbit disappear. But it was fake. See?” I produced the rabbit from a compartment under the thrifted magician’s table, holding it by the scruff of its neck.

“No, what was that sound. That crackle when it disappeared. You didn’t hear that?”

I listened.

“Nothing,” I started to say, but the rabbit cut me off. In hushed tones, it said, “I heard it too. It squeezed through the portal with me.”

Then the rabbit’s eyes widened to take in something behind me, and Audrey began to scream.★

Justin A. Price has toyed with the idea of writing since he was a little boy. Now, he's still toying with it, but at least he has a few doc files to show for the effort.

He's lived in sunny Florida his entire life, though he's dying to move somewhere more dreary and destitute. Of course, if that happens, his wife and two children might just kill him.

#100WordHorror ★ Patricia Lynne

lucky-first-font

People said to be afraid of the dark. Monsters lurked in the shadows, waiting to ambush you. But they were wrong. It was the light that hid evil. Behind a kind smile, caring eyes and a gentle touch.

Evil knew this too.

It understood if it cloaked itself in light, people would be blinded. They can’t see the darkness beneath. They’d make excuses. Evil banked on their gullibility.

I know because it’s how I move through this world. My masks are different, but the same. A kind smile, caring eyes and a gentle touch.

And my victims never question it.★

Alice playfully walked the razors edge of the cliff. Tiny giggles escaping her lips as she asked, “If I start to fall would you catch me Adam?”

Adam's love-filled gaze fell on Alice and his features showed he would do anything to save her. Alice leaned back a bit further, her arms pinwheeling as she smiled.

Panicked Adam lunged forward to grab her and plunged headlong over the cliff.

Alice watched as Adam fell, a smile playing on her lips.

Her soul free at last, her form disappeared into the mist. ★

#100WordHorror ★ Hollie Hausenfluck

“You're next,” a voice whispered.

I spun on the spot, looking for the mysterious voice, but there was nothing, just my empty apartment. Then, the sound of something slithering across the floor echoed behind me. Goosebumps raced across my skin. My heart pounded; sweat beaded on my forehead.

“Join us,” the strange voice spoke again.

I held my hands over my ears and hummed. Surely the hallucination would be over soon. I closed my eyes and counted to ten, then took a deep breath and opened my eyes.

The red glass was sitting on the table, begging for my attention. My mouth watered as a drop of water slid down the cool glass.

“Drink it. Become one of us.”

I reached out a shaking hand and…★

I am a published author and have been writing most of my adult life. After a few years of writing, I decided to start a freelance editing and writing career. I take pride in the ability to produce original, engaging and error-free content. I’m able to catch most grammar mistakes and point out those pesky plot bunnies.

The most important thing about being an editor is being able to give it to your clients straight but in a constructive way. I’m able to help my clients fix issues, without changing their story. My goal is to make a client’s story the best it can be. All of my editing services come with two revisions and for a reasonable price that will fit within most self-publisher’s budgets.

When I’m not writing or editing, I love spending time with my husband and our house full of animals. On a rainy day, you can find me lounging on the couch with a good book in hand.

#100WordHorror ★ AloneAtNight (Mean Old Man)

halloween-fonts

I’ve always hated sounds more than actually seeing things because at least with seeing you feel it’s more something you can control.

I had an experience where my best friend and I stood outside her house when we were five or six, playing around for only a few minutes. It was dead quiet for some reason, like the quiet when it has snowed, even though she lived near a busy street and there were cars always passing.

Through the quiet we suddenly hear a man’s laugh right next to us but nobody was around. It sounded like a mocking laugh, and we looked around wondering where it came from. Then it got quiet again, and suddenly into our ears we hear a loud hissing “SHHH!”

We both screamed and ran inside as quickly as possible, and we didn’t go out for the rest of the day.

I was recently discussing that moment with my best friend and she told me that she would always see a mean old man at the foot of her bed at night when she lived in that house. He would tell her he was going to hurt her and her mother. Oh...and that house burned down pretty soon after our weird experience, for seemingly no reason at all.★

#100WordHorror ★ AloneAtNight (Demon)

halloween-fonts

One afternoon in college I came back from classes and decided to sit on the couch and have a snack. After that, I just passed out.

I had a nightmare of some bloody faced demon-ish thing screaming in my ear at the top of its lungs. Woke up and went about the rest of my day.

My roommate comes back later that night and goes into his room as I’m sitting in the main living area. At some point, he lets out this random startled scream which leads to me running down the hall to see what’s going on. He looks at me and goes “I swear to god someone with a bloody face just walked from your bedroom into the bathroom.”

I never told him about my nightmare I had earlier in the day. I didn’t sleep for 2 days.

Nothing ever happened again.★

Turn down the lights. Grab a flashlight, pull the blankets over your head, and prepare for a night of reading the scariest stories around.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's only make believe."

And, whatever you do, make sure you keep the closet door closed.

Vision of the Blind ★ Payton Smith

signature-fonts

I
Four years passed since the accident that took my sight, never to return it. I lost my job, my wife, and most of my old friends, sure the money is nice, but only when I have others to share it with.

Mr. Hudson, or George as I preferred to call him, is my butler that I hired a while back and one of the few I can trust anymore, although now we are better friends than a master and his servant. The walls of my mansion are enormous or at least so I am told, but I do know that the halls stretch on for what feels like an eternity. Silence filled the building most of the time.

I hate silence because it stalks me when I am alone. A few times a month a group of my friends stop by and we converse of the world today.

A while back, I used to throw big parties like those of Mr. Gatsby for all my neighbors and anyone who needed a place to socialize, but that stopped a few months ago. George told me that he overheard a group from our last party talking about how a few of the rooms were “eerie”, and some even muttered that I was a crazy blind man intending to murder all the party guests, utter nonsense.
It was this rumor, however, that ended the parties.

Lars's Muse ★ Yawatta Hosby

signature-fonts

Lars set his acoustic guitar on the floor of his hotel room. He studied his beautiful muse who laid on the bed surrounded by wrinkled red satin sheets.

Her green eyes intrigued him, and her pale skin looked perfect in contrast with the dark red. Her magenta glossed lips puckered up like she wanted to say something, but his muse remained quiet.

And quiet was exactly what he needed.

His statuesque muse was supposed to inspire his latest alternative rock song. The concert was in less than an hour, but his creative juices ran empty.

Lars sighed and closed his eyes. Damn it, think.

A wicked smile crept on his face as he picked up the guitar again. "Oh, Sweet Valentine, love is pain, love is torture," he sang to a hectic melody, his fingers strumming the strings violently.

Something Got Out ⋆ Jarce ArtThor

grunge-fonts

Keith thought the fire was only in his lungs, but when he came to, he saw that it was everywhere. Dense tendrils of smoke hung from the roof of the fuselage, undulating grey curtains rippled in the wind.

His eyes burned.

Tears streamed from them but did nothing to negate the sting. He tried to see deeper, but he couldn’t. He tried to breathe but he could only heave. Finding the release to his safety belt, he disentangled himself from the seat.

He spilled into the narrow aisle, listlessly. A part of him wanted to languish there, go to sleep and die, but another part needed to find refuge from this hell. He choked on a brutal cough and glanced up.

The warring flames caught the silhouette of the passenger seats before him, and they looked like looming tombstones. It would be his grave if he did not get out, and fast.

I'm Friday The 13th ★ Alexander Olson

grunge-fonts

I’m Friday the 13th.

I’m the baddest of bad luck. Black cats and broken mirrors like left jabs and right straights from Muhammad Ali.

So what the fuck is going on?

Nothing is working anymore. I can’t hit my spots. Today, I saw children jumping on cracks in the sidewalk with no concern for their mother’s backs. I saw movers drop a mirror, shattering it into bits of self-reflection, and they were more concerned about the cost of the mirror, versus the consequences.

“At least you have the athletes,” Nature says.

Wake Me Please ★ Arthur Macabe

Something wakes me.

I’m still half asleep, in that strange place between fully awake and passed out. I think about moving my body, but I’m too comfortable; my limbs wouldn’t move if I tried.

Laying on my side, I see my wife sleeping next to me, her back facing me. I sigh, thinking about how lucky I am to be with her, sharing this wonderful life with–

WOOF!

A dog barks. That’s what woke me.

Today Is Not The Day ★ Hollie Hausenfluck

What if I told you all those tales from your childhood were real? Vampires only come out at night, werewolves shift at the full moon, zombies eat brains, and ghosts still linger on this earth.

You'd probably think I was crazy.
Hell, sometimes I think I'm crazy.

It all started last year. When I almost died.

Today’s post is an interview with one of my favorite authors on Twitter. Not only is he a really nice guy, Manuel Arbanassi is one hell of a writer.
His debut novel Elemental: The Calling, garnered some very passionate attention from fans, and I see that he is already being asked by many about a sequel.
So today, he’s agreed to sit down and let me pick his brain.

Blood Bird ★ Benjamin Shelor (Part Two)

Something screeched in the distance.
It was a hollow wail, like a bird’s call, but not a nice melodic bird.
The sickly screechy kind.
It was the only sound that traveled.
I swallowed thickly.
“What was that?” Bob aimed his flashlight sky bound. “It came from above us, to the west.”
Ernie’s face went pale. He didn’t answer.
“It’s that bird ol’ Bill used to talk about before he died,” someone said.

Blood Bird ★ Benjamin Shelor (Part One)

It was a Sunday.
The day the kids down the lane went missing.
It was sunny, but cold; sunlight flitting through the trees like racing pixies. The fall air full of wood smoke and whimsy, changing leaves and magic.
The smell of it all would wrap around you whenever you stepped outside.
They were all kin, you see. The kids.
Two brothers and a sister.
There was Judy, Jack and Gene.
I supposed their parents thought themselves poetic, but couldn’t quite grasp what they were going for with the names was witty alliteration.
I think the beast gets a taste for a bloodline, and after that--- well, any future you might've had becomes a whisper of smoke, because your days are numbered.
