I had speaking, reading and writing disabilities when young. Communicating stories, I started with art. As I learned to communicate better with years of art, I wrote poetry.
My first novel, “Transient State,” was originally only a long, extra credit poetry I wrote during my senior year in high school. It took me a long time to learn how to write beyond short stories, due to my writing and reading disabilities before I completed the first draft of my novel.
A screenwriting workshop taught me how my brain communicated, so after writing my first script, (which was a musical), I began my first novel. It took a month to write that first draft and 10 years and 10 drafts to learn how to be a novelist, to finally query it.
