Everyday For A Month: Day 6

About My Missed Day:

Welp, I forgot to do Day 5. That blogging streak lasted a long time...

*Eye roll*

Rather than dwell on the fact that I have the memory of an eggplant, I'll just say that Day 5 would have been pretty funny if I'd have written a post about it. I went to a wedding. Got snockered and live tweeted it instead... 😊

Day 6:

Today I woke up at 5am and had this really strong urge to write. I haven't felt that way in a long time, so I think this daily blogging thing is working. I wish I could say that work on my novel(s) wasn't slow going, but I'd be lying if I told you I was writing five words and only deleting two of them per paragraph in "Trigram".

It's more like a 5:6 | write:delete ratio right now.

As far as #52weeks52stories is going, I'm waaaaaay behind. When I think about it, it kind of makes me feel bad, because I thought for sure I'd be able to write 52 stories in a year (keep in mind that I'm talking about flash fiction and not novellas...) But, it hasn't worked out that way.

I've got a million unfinished projects that I don't feel like going back to and no new ideas are grabbing me and forcing me to write them out. I don't really care for this feeling. Feels like I'm stuck in mud, unable to pull myself out or sink completely, but I try to remind myself on a regular basis that it's not that way.

Working on my 'series bible' is helping me flesh out my characters. It's forcing me to sit back and not write, but absorb each situation I've created and really think about what it means for my characters. I'm learning more about Thierry everyday, things I hadn't thought were important. My conclusion? I'm stuck because I don't know who I'm writing about.

Thierry's love interest, Tess, was a blank slate before a week or so ago. I new her basic information, but I didn't know her long term goals, specifically what her goals were before Thierry. Now, I get Thierry is my main character, and that Tess' goals change after she meets him, but I had to find a way to figure out who she was pre-T-Cup. Once I started asking the right questions, I was able to discern her goals, and once you know a person's goal, it's way easier to figure out what they'd be likely to do or not do... Say or not say.

I knew goals were important before this dry spell, and I know that some novels can be character driven, but I don't think I'm talented enough to figure out how to write a character driven plot yet. My characters have to have concrete goals, or I get stuck.

Anyway, Dea Poirier said something pretty badass the other day in a tweet and I find myself thinking about it a lot. Wise words. I wonder which draft I'm on when it comes to Trigram... I think I'm somewhere between 2 and 3... (wink).

Oh well, lemme get off here, Pheona just started levitating. I should probably go congratulate her.

"Good job, doggy! Mommy's so proud!"

Thanks for reading!
